How To Be More Charismatic

Charisma, to some it seems like a mystical power that only the select few are born with, however I am here to tell you that yes, while a few people are naturally charismatic (however they're most probably copying techniques learnt at an early age), charisma is something that can be developed.

The dictionary defines charisma as:

'compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others.'

Research has shown that charisma can be broken down in to 3 traits/behaviours

1. Presence

Presence is about being there in the moment, when you give someone your full attention (presence) you make them feel like they are the most important person in the world. A simple hack is to notice the colour of someones eyes, this will cause you to make eye contact in a way that connects on a much deeper level.

2. Power

Power is not about how much money you have or how much you can bench press, power is about how you can affect the world around you, people will look for signs of power in the way you present yourself and how others respond to you, so think about the visual data you send out, how are you dressed, how do you move and hold yourself

3. Warmth

Warmth is seen in how much you like someone, how much you care and how you will use your power to help them, you cant fake warmth so you need to go on a mission to find things you like about someone when you interact with them.

Olivia Fox Cabane (author of 'The Charisma Myth), references Bill Clinton as a person with amazing amounts of charisma, if you have a spare few minutes head over to YouTube and watch a few video's of Mr Clinton being interviewed (avoid the obvious 😉ha ha)

Who do you think is the most charismatic public figure?
